Sinead Starin has always felt she was missing something extraordinary- a world somehow just beyond her grasp.
Literally thrust headfirst into that world, she realized it was like nothing she could have ever imagined. A near death experience, a resultant unsettling ability to see ghosts, and a baffling but deadly quest that could save or destroy the world she loves easily convinces her that she should be much more careful of what she wishes for...
Racing against time and bizarrely terrifying, soul stealing creatures, aided by equally mystifying light dwellers and her friend Aidan, Sinead searches for an ancient mauscript that holds the key to vanquishing the growing tide of evil....
In the midst of all this, Sinead meets Aidan's cousin Rowan, a boy burdened with a tragic past- a boy like no one else she's ever met before. As their attraction grows, Rowan gets drawn into the conflict, a conflict that he will learn has already effected his life in more ways than one.
Sneak Peek:
(Excert from Chapter 6,"The Gadai")
I lay face down in the flower bed. Not again I despaired, poor Mrs. Hennessy. But this time it was purple irises beneath me, surrounding me like a shroud. Turning over, I saw Grey Cloaks above me, figures whirling, casting eerie shadows in the sky. Withered rank creatures, grey skin clung to their wizened forms like sickly flesh on a vulture’s talon.
Moaning with hunger they sped towards me. I couldn’t move; twisting flowers rose from the ground to trap my body in the dirt. The Whisperer spoke, his sibilant voice holding me fast. “You’re a beacon of light chosen to stop the rising, get the book…”
Before me stood Rowan, eyes empty, holding a book. Struggling for breath, I stared as he opened a rusty old gate and laughter shook the barren wasteland around me.
Gadai poured forth, eyes gleaming as they broke free, spreading like a tsunami over the earth. The ultimate hunters, they changed shapes, blending into the world around them. They could shape shift, becoming whoever the situation required, assuming the ultimate camouflage, the ordinary being. Whether male or female, they become the invisibles, those average people we pass every day but don’t really see. It was easy for them to smile meekly at others in a crowd and stumbling, reach out for a shoulder to steady them.
Horrified, I watched. All over the planet they slyly touched women, men and children, stealing their souls. Then, apologizing for their clumsiness, they wandered away. It was terrifying, the ease with which they infiltrated humanity, the speed of their capture….
Suddenly I saw Rowan again and ran to him. He was stuck in a labyrinth of clay, but I couldn’t reach him, there were too many dead ends. I was desperate, searching everywhere, but the high musty walls closed me in.
Before I could find him, he appeared beside me, smiling. He burst into flames and dissolved into dust. I screamed, pounding the grimy walls with my fists, blood dripping from my cracked skin, but my scream seemed a mere sigh in the wind.
